Project case study
40 Laser-Engraved Solid Walnut Wall Plaques for a US Recognition Program

The brief
The customer supplied a multi-panel layout: several engraved name panels arranged around a central motif, with a curved banner across the bottom. Every plaque was identical, so the priority was getting one design exactly right and then repeating it 40 times.
The plaques had to arrive by a fixed date. That made decision speed as important as the engraving itself.
Choosing the wood from side-by-side proofs
Rather than describing wood options in words, we produced the same approved proof twice: once in oak and once in walnut. The layout, dimensions, text and positions were identical; only the colour and grain changed. The customer's end client compared them side by side and chose walnut.
Natural wood varies from piece to piece, so the chosen proof was used as the colour and appearance reference for production, not as an exact match for every board.
Catching an omission at proof stage
During review, the customer noticed that one name panel had been left off the bottom of the layout. It was added and the full drawing was re-issued. Before production we asked for a final check of every name, panel position, motif element and the bottom banner wording, and production started only after a written “Approved for Production”.
Material change: 13 mm to 20 mm walnut
The 13 mm walnut originally discussed was not available in time. Instead of delaying the order, we upgraded the plaques to 20 mm walnut at the same unit price. The thicker board gives the engraving more depth around it and a more solid feel on the wall.
Testing the wall mount before production
Wall plaques fail at the fixing point, not the engraving. We drilled the proposed mounting holes on a sample plaque, hung it and load-tested it, then sent the customer a short video. The mounting method was approved together with the final artwork, so the same method was used on all 40 pieces.
Keeping the schedule
To protect the in-hands date, we started sourcing the walnut once the deposit was received, while the artwork was still being finalised in parallel. Shipping was arranged on the customer's own FedEx account: they issued the labels for the four cartons, and we supplied the packed carton dimensions and weights.
Questions buyers ask about projects like this
Can I compare oak and walnut before ordering a custom plaque?
Yes. We can render the same approved design in two woods so you can compare colour and grain side by side before choosing. Final pieces will vary slightly because the wood is natural.
How are custom wood wall plaques mounted?
We agree the fixing method before production, for example drilled keyhole or mounting holes in the back, and test it on a sample plaque. You approve the mounting method together with the final artwork.
Can you ship on my company's FedEx or UPS account?
Yes. You can send us shipping labels, or authorise us in writing to bill your account. We provide the final carton dimensions and gross weight once the order is packed.
